Dear Mr Parkinson - no fast tracking please

This is my fervent plea to you to vote against the fast-track process introduced by Premier Lennon and Gunns Limited to assess the impacts of the proposed pulp mill on the Tamar Valley environment, residents and businesses.

The health and well-being of 100,000 people are in your hands, not to speak of the marine, terrestrial and avian creatures that live in the Tamar Valley and its environs.

Apart from the obvious concerns, which have been expressed in my several submissions to the RPDC, Malcolm Turnbull and Gunns Limited, I am particularly worried about the possible bacteriological contaminants in the mill effluent, which have not been addressed by anyone. This issue should be of considerable concern to you in light of the abalone contamination problem currently being experienced in Victoria.

Almost half of the guidelines produced by the RPDC were not considered or assessed by Sweco Pic.

Please listen to your electors and at least hold over voting on this legislation until exhaustive and scientific assessments have been carried out, rather than the piecemeal, fast-track excuse for an assessment we have had to date. Once this project is started it will be impossible to turn back the clock.

Tasmania’s clean green image is in your hands.

Yours sincerely,

Ruth Holt
