Once again our elected representatives respond to the concerns of their community with an attitude that reeks of total disregard and contempt.
What is it with the Councils? Launceston, Meander Valley and now West Tamar have all hosted Petition meetings and they have all attempted to water down the issue by reducing the seating available to the public.
Where does this ridiculous attitude come from and why does it appear as a common thread with these forms of meetings? I suspect a fair amount of collusion and direction is taking place behind the scenes. And what or who is the common denominator?
This upfront attitude does nothing more than tell the electorate that they have never been, are not and never will be concerned about the people they represent!
People, this is no less a provocative act than if they stuck their collective tongues out at you as you entered their venues!
When will they learn that they are there to embrace the will of THE PEOPLE? When will the Democratic process be seen instead of their abysmal behaviour?
They, through their own attitude, at last night’s Petition Meeting, fermented their own stupid and misconceived fear so much so that they sought Police and Security Staff protection! What an arrogant and idiotic approach to the communities need for debate and leadership! Mayor Easther aren’t you aware that mob lynching is illegal? (Unfortunately)
More than a hundred extra seats could have been set up in the community centre. So much for open community dialogue when it doesn’t suit you!
As for the future of the Motions, where will they end up? That will depend entirely on a sincere change of attitude by those who now hold the communities wishes in their hands!
